OK, kind of Disney-like feel good. But why did he let the old one rot in a barn?

Made the "911" what it is today. Really, it's a 911?

This is the same BS propaganda that other companies use; take the once great thing you did and explot it for the new disposable crap the push on the dumbass consumer.

I think he was thinking back to when he first bought the car - he rescued it.

In general, you guys are a pretty harsh audience. I mean, maybe he sold because he had kids, or to pay for school.

The new cars are nice. I have 3 long hoods and 1 997. They are all great. The 997 is one of the fastest, best handling, and well built cars I have ever driven. I wouldn't knock it without trying it.

I would bet your long hood cars will out value the 997 with ease.

Seems the water cooled 911's are on a stairway to h@## as for resale and investment potential.

Yes, you are right. However, I generally keep my investments out of my garage. I assume the value of car I buy, the second I buy it, is zero. That way, if I am not willing to lose the entire purchase price (I don't plan to, I just need to assume it could happen), I don't buy the car.

For the very reason you mention + the fact the new cars can rarely be driven anywhere near their true "fun level" on public street, I probably won't be buying very many new fun cars in the future - stick with the classics.

However, if Porsche or Ferrari would ever make a 2500 pound car again... I'd be willing to overcome those two objections.

I agree on the 997. Heck, I own one of the most blasphemous versions to wear the badge (Cayenne). My beef is they try to associate the aircooled cars with every new model launched today (even the Cayenne) when clearly there is little to no DNA shared between the classics and cars today.

If the cars are so great today, then they should stand on their own merits....... Which I think they would if given the chance.

BTW, I feel the same about the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger.
