Hi guys
Well, upon cleaning the wheels, I noticed that the nuts on the studs on the front spacers are not fully "engage" as the stud seem to be definitely too short. On the back spacers (2"), the studs protrudes by about a quarter inch. Since the CAT list the original stud as 45mm (83SC), once you add the 32mm for the spacer, the stud should be at least 77mm. Since our host carry 72mm & 100mm it would be probably be safer to go with the 100mm ones. Short of removing one of my fitted one, can anybody confirm my "educated guess" of 100mm. Thanks J.J. This answer will cause some controversy so stay with me on this. Common convention leads us to think we need some exposed stud length thru an open nut. Since the Porsche stud is 14 mm diameter, we feel the "nut" should have a body "height" of at least 14 mm to capture one-full diameter equivalent amount of thread engagement. This is the standard convention. Actually... a bit more is desirable if we like to see 1-2 threads exposed beyond this.
Here's the rub. If this were true....how come the newest Porsches...with the "bolt" instead of nut and stud.....have an enagagement "depth" in the brake faceplate ( the plate thickness the bolt screws into ) of only 7 mm ??? ... and still be considered OK for a 14 mm diameter bolt ??? If that is OK...then I submit that in this case having the "ideal" full diameter thread engagememt is not all that critical as long as there is at least 7 mm engagement. What say others??

Here's a previous thread I was engaged in that spoke to the same issue. The "bolts" used in 996 era cars only have 7 mm of faceplate thickness that thay screw into.... no more.
996 wheel bolt...5 threads engage ?? If you don't have patience...go to page 3 post #45, where I start to say "Mystery solved".

Thanks, I started to wonder if I was going to have to kick start the thread... Look like I got about 10mm engagement so it will stay like this until at least when I upgrade to brakes to Turbo Look one. Cheers J.J.
