Windshield Aluminum Trim Removal
Regarding the removal of the aluminum windshield trim piece;
I've read Project 79 (Glass Removal) and 80 (Installing Window Glass) from Wayne's 101 Projects. Seems straightforward enough but . . . I've currently got the black anodized aluminum trim in place in my '75 S. I would like to replace that later trim with the original chrome trim. Wayne recommends placing the trim in the seal prior to installing the window but is it possible to remove the old anodized trim and replace it with the chrome with the window still in place? Any insight on this would be appreciated

I think some were in one of the post on windshield installation someone states it cannot be done with the glass on the car.Because of how the trim locks into the seal.

I fear you may be right. When I changed the windshield in my '83 Cab, the installer admitted to me he had never done a 911. I let him see Wayne's book Project 80, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as he read the book while attempting to install the glass.
After 1 hr 20 min he said his boss was going to have to do it. The boss came a week later. He wasn't much better. But he got the window in without the trim and rubber malloted it in after the fact. I've learned my lesson. Might be time to go to Dave at TRE

The windsheild has to come out. If you try to tap it in it can crack the windsheild, ask me how I know:^)?

You already know the answer. In addition, the trim also spreads the seal to fit into all the corners (or, at least, prevents the seal from pulling back) and without it, even a factory seal will leak. You can relay this thread to your installer as a favor.

I suspected as much. Now I'm going to have to get a new seal and windshield since the window is going to come out.
