How far can I advance the timing?

I just add the Ignitor Electronic Ignition to my completely stock 2.7. I have it set to the stock settings and it idles dead smooth now at 950 rpm. However- it doesn't seem as "crisp" under heavy throttle- probably my imagination.
Can I bump up the timing and if so how much? I'm near the great lakes and enjoy 93 octane.

I assume you reset the timing after installing the Pertronix. The total timing should be about 38 degrees at the most - assuming you are using high octane gas. I usually set mine around 36 degrees just to be safe.

38 max- got it,
Thank you Mr. Middie!

you may be hurting your performance if you advance the timing too much. the ONLY true way to set set the timing for optimal performance is on a dyno.

as you advance the timing, the piston is still building compression, so when it fires, the ignition of the fuel is pushing down on the piston as it is still trying to go up, reducing HP.

here is a good article on detonation, pre ignition and timing.

i could not get to the site. i am my work computer but here is the link. i hope it works
