Possible transmission damage?
So I dropped my engine last night and had it on a dolly to move it into my shop. The engine was balanced, still attached to the 915 trans on this dolly. I needed to take the trans off so I undid the bolts, then after doing some other stuff for a few minutes, I completely forgot that I had unbolted it. I gave the trans a huge yank to try and roll the dolly, and POP, the whole thing slides off with ease and falls to the ground from 4 inches. It landed on the trans support, the clutch release lever and the clutch cross-shaft. I can't believe I did it, but it's been done. My question is, although there is no obvious external damage, might anything else have been damaged? Thanks guys. Next time I'll be more careful for sure.

Tranny is pretty tough. If the case is not damaged and the external stuff not bent you should be ok.

Thanks, docrodg, I'll make sure nothing looks bent. I don't know what "rubenmad" was doing...Any second opinions on the issue?

I agree. If nothing is bent on the outside, in particular the clutch release lever (and inspect it closely for any cracks - much easier to replace now than when you've got the car back together and it breaks while driving!) then I'd think you're fine. Nothing inside is going to get damaged from dropping it a few inches. In fact, the recommended way of removing the gears from one of the shafts is by slamming it onto the ground with everything you've got. (seriously)
