Hello all... I'm currently in the process of R&R on my 85 930... I'm trying to remove the chain tensioners and housing... However my pulley wheels don't have any indicator for TDC... There are three marks that are 120 degrees apart and no indication of which one is TDC. Also one mark has a square and a circle lined up with it. (what's up with that??) Before I go any further in disassembling I want to mark TDC.
Any advice on how I find where TDC is?? I have everything off so I can look down the intake ports, if this helps. Thank you in advance. |

Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine until the rotor is lined up with the #1 spark plug wire terminal on the cap. At this poiont, the timing mark with the extra characters (square and circle) should be straight up. One of these marks is TDC for #1 cylinder. I don't know which one, but perhaps this is 'close enough.'
Be sure you use wire or something to secure the chain so it does not move or slip a tooth while a tensioner is out. While you're in there, change your chain ramps, they may be 'beat up' like mine were. And be slow and careful not to drop one into the case. ------------------ '83 SC |
