Removing Disks
 

Part of removing the brake disks involve disconnecting the solid brake line. If I just want to swap out one disk for another is there a trick to doing that without disconnecting the hard line. It 1)makes a mess and 2) involves a subsequent bleed. Is there enough give in that line to move the caliper out of the way and hang it there until the new disk can be installed?

Yes, it can be done.

Be sure to disconnect the clip that holds the hard line to the strut. Use something to hold the caliper out of the way.

Be careful not to let the hard line be bent or moved any more than is needed.

The only way to get the clip out is to disconnect the hardline from the hose. What am I missing?

There is spring type clip that keep the hard line and hose in place. Slide out the spring clip and the hose will allow movement through the strut. I have done rotor replacement without removing that clip but you need to be careful to support the whole caliper while sliding the rotor and hub off. The hard pipe is somewhat 'soft' and has some flex without cracking.

I know what spring clip you are talking about. There's one on the other end of the hose to the line that goes under the car. But unless they are missing, I don't have that spring clip on this end of the hose.

The spring is #6 in the diagram and if it is not on your car your hard line and soft line will be loose in the strut.

Not to kick this dead horse but in the clip from the manual that I posted above (#7) is the one that secures the hard line to the caliper. I wonder if Porsche at one time had a spring clip to the hard line to the caliper (as you show as #6) and later did the U shaped clip (as shown in the shot from the manual.

they should use both. The removable one (6) allows you the extra room to disconnect the lines without tension. (7) just holds everything in place while in use.
I think now the horse is officially dead :D
