G50 aftermarket shift knobs...suggestions please.

hey guys,

I'm soliciting advice for a replacement shift knob for my stock '88 knob.

I looked a bit into our host's site, and found some decent Momo's...but there's no info on whether they will fit on the '87-'89 911. I thought about calling, then I thought that this community might give me some good info on other possible items that may be available.

FYI, I have a 930S steering wheel with the gold P-car crest. I'd like to stay with either black leather or maybe a carbon / leather combo...nothing shaped like a phallus, please.

thanks.................

Hello kidrock,

I have this one:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/MISC/POR_MISC_moknob_pg11.htm

With this S. wheel in black:
Pelican Parts.com - Jet

Although the carbon parts are not exactly the same tone of black, I think it's a nice combo, not flashy.

Take care,

O-

Kidrock,

Mine came with several different sized rubber tips that you fit over your shift lever. Piece of cake.

Take care,

I installed a used MOMO leather shifter knob in my 89 Coupe... kinda fits in well with the 20 year old leather... lol
You should have no problems whatsoever installing one in your car ,do yourself a favor and
DON'T destroy your original one while removing !
Just check out the selling prices of good original shifter knobs on the classifieds !!!

I like wood knobs ... you can turn one pretty easily on a lathe.

To up this idea to uber cool...
Go to a hobby shop and get some 1/4 balsa and laminate it up into a shift knob using a drill press as a lathe. Easy to work with and you end up with the ultra cool 917 like shift knob.

It appears that Momo disciontinued their wood shift knobs...
I am looking for one that would match my steering wheel...
I also need to replace the screws on that wheel...

I didn't realize you could still get a stock replacement knob from Porsche. Did you just go to a dealer & order it? I need one too, & the aftermarket knobs don't work for me.

Ditto, I looked at EVERYTHING out there and didn't like what I found. Got the stock replacement from Pelican. Don't forget the nice new replacement shift pattern cap too for a few bucks.

Look at Nirvana motorsports on eBay, url: eBay My World - nms996. They make an aluminium billet knob, beautifully machined and dirt cheap. It is held with 2 hex grub screws, and fits perfectly.
