New 3.2 owner//need help

I am a new owner of an 85 carerra which i have had for 2 months, and i am trying to locate and fix a cricket type creaking/chirping noise from drivers side of the car that usually starts after starting the car cold and lasts for a minute or 2. Seems to come from front or rear, noise resonates and is hard to locate. In response to a post on this site, i checked sway bar bushhings and links, and found rear sway bar links blown out. I replaced both rear sway bar links and sway bar bushings, but the noise still persists. I dont mind doing the work if someone could point me in the right direction; i really love the car, best car i've ever owned! Also note that sway bar brackets are not cracked/i checked them, and also have lubed hood latches and seals, doors seals and latches. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

J. Lewis,

A couple of things... first I assume that this is a moving problem, not a static noise since you've made some changes to the suspension? Have you isolated the noise to the body, it's not an engine or running gear noise. Have you stepped on the brakes to see if it goes away? Have you tried pulling on the E-brake, just a little?

Next, why don't you post an introduction and pixs of your car, plus your location. The members love seeing pictures... In fact it's an unspoken requirement.

Welcome!

And you can't isolate to front or rear? - that'd drive me nuts.

Let us know too if it's a cab or Targa (squeaky top) - sorry I sound dumb, but we need some more details and the folks here'll narrow it down, otherwise we just guess.

Are the RPMs the same through out the 2 minutes?
Vibe from an initial uneven idle?
Put an ear to the tachometer in the dash?
Or is Mitch on the right track with the suspension?

But yes, pictures first. :-)

Often, it's not so unspoken...

J.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and found an earlier post of your cool car in another thread where you had the same issue. You chk'ed and replaced the sway bushings - 'cause the noise was happening when you moved. It might have been ok or better to just have continued that post for the benefit of having the whole history, buy you didn't know - it's not like there is a rule book.

Anyway, you might now try checking or have checked the rear torsion bar bushings - although I would tend to think that noise would last a lot longer than 2 minutes.

I also recommend going thru posts and getting the Bentley manual.

Good luck! (and write back)

ps - does the noise happen if you roll the car a bit with eng off, or push down on the rear?
