Hello, I just got my project to run! It is a 1980sc. I bought it many months ago and tonight was the first time I got it running! However.....It runs like crap. he car had been sitting four 3 yrs. Squeaks, coughs and sputters on acceleration. I am presuming the valves need adjusted. I hope it doesn't need a full valve job???? I got if for a good price so I expected to put some $ into it. This is my first 911....This is what I have done so far: Removed fuel tank and had it cleaned. Replaced fuel pump & filter. Replaced cap & rotor. Replaced plugs along with new plug wires. Oil change. Anyway, just wanted to share. I'll post some pics tomorrow as it is dark out now. And yes any advise from you all is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

good luck with getting it going right , start buy reading the tech info center articles and not just a plug for our sponsor order a copy of his book , you can order it here , it is a great read , coffee table or rest room , full of info - pics - and more things than you may want to know about your new addiction .

I highly recommend you clean your injectors. They come out easily and you can blow them out with spray cleaner and/or soak them until they clean up.

The spark plug connectors are resistors. If not used they corrode. Check them all with an ohm meter.

This could easily be the majority of the problem. Put a LOT of fuel injector cleaner in the fuel and for the next couple tanks full. It will run better with each tank.

Just my experience.

Along w/ all the above, it wouldn't be a bad to verify that your fuel pressures, incl cold and warm control pressure, and mixture are correct.

Thanks for the input! YES... I will have pics up latter today after work. :) It's a work in progress...I'll clean the injectors on Sunday and re gap the spark plugs. I think they are @ .40 which is way to much. I have a MSD coil but assume the gap should be closer to .28. Also, recheck the connection of the plug wires. Those are a pain to get connected. I bought some clewett from our host. Thanks again for the input! Promise I'll have pics up later today......

Installed mine, took her for a spin, no power and it sounded rough...

Turned out that none on the right bank were actually plug in...

Hello, I may have the same problem...... Also, If I remove the injectors for cleaning should I buy new sleeves and O rings? Thanks!

.040 for plugs when using an MSD box and coil is fine.

Whats the book? Sounds like a good xmas gift.

Ok, here are a couple pics. I drove it again b/f it got dark for an hour. Still NO POWER. The car doesn't smoke which I assume is a good thing?? I re-gaped the plugs to .31 and checked the spark plug boots to assure they are all connected. I am going to remove the injectors Sunday and either clean them myself or send them in to be cleaned. I just ordered 101 projects for your 911....... Can't wait to start reading!!!

The basics are fuel, spark, compression.

I believe that these cars are pretty robust and if it isn't smoking, you might have gotten lucky. Still, if you have no power, it is one of the above three items.

A super easy check is the throttle linkage. Check to see that WOT at the pedal give WOT at the engine. I just adjusted mine and I bet I bumped up 25% in power.

You could have something with the wires. Arcing wires robs spark from the plug. I like your checking the injectors as well. The wisdom is that CIS hates dirt.

You may try some injector cleaner (I hear techron is good) and give it the "Italian tuneup." Which is drive it like hell and see if it gets better. You might also check your timing and see if the distributor advances. Also, see if the wires are routed correctly. Getting two out of whack will make it run poorly for sure.

If these don't work, check fuel pressure and compression. I think you might have a couple of small issues working at the same time. It is a beautiful car and if you got a runner for a discount all the better! Welcome and keep us posted.

Thank you for the replies. Peer pressure....I gave in. :) I have to work today so Sunday will be the day I will take the injectors out and begin checking other things. I talk a look at the throttle linkage and do another check of the plug wires. Again thanks for the help!!
