early 911 corrosion protection
I want to assure that my “still” pretty much rust free 73 will stay that way for a while even I'm not a sunshine only kind of driver. Growing up and restoring cars in Germany I remember a grease based corrosion protection that has a great reputation. Unfortunately this product is not available in the states. Per a 10 year corrosion test from “Oldtimer Markt” and “Auto Bild” in Germany: the grease based products have best longtime results. Here a link to the test. The text is German for the ones that can read it - for the rest some interesting pictures. Rostschutzmittel im Test - Rost auf Raten - Autoreparatur - autobild.de
The reason why the grease based product worked so well is also its problem: It has a very low viscosity and in order to be applied with a conventional pressure applicator it needs to be preheated to 240 F. Here my questions: 1. Does anyone know about grease (not wax) based corrosion protection that is available in the states? 2. Any recommendation for a 911 on where and how to access sills and hollow spaces that are in need of protection? 3. Any other ideas or recommendations on corrosion protection? |

Fretan is good to stop rust but not so much to protect it.

One bright spot: In the treatment with anti-corrosion grease Mike Sanders case was effectively halted the destruction. Over the three-year test of Gilb bit her off at the well-protected interior surfaces of his teeth.
Equally convincing is the so-called creeping of the drug, so the property to be distributed evenly throughout the box. Even after years of the fat still moves on into cracks and crevices, this slows the rust out effectively. Second place - as Sanders grease a hot tip from the classic car scene - which of Gerd Mönnich even mixed Siegafett from Friesland. The test was formed under the protective layer, however, and dyed it brown a little rust in some places. Moreover, the coating by the salt washes is washed away in places. World's largest long-term test Third place in the first wax product: Teroson, which we rated as "good". Teroson convinced mainly thanks to its protective effect on smooth interior surfaces. Only in some places the layer of wax to burst at seams and edges due to corrosion. Reason: The creeping is when growth generally weaker than in fat. Therefore waxes protect columns and bolted to the edges of the boxes, called flanges, hardly at all. Rust are programmed so. The same applies to the waxes of Waxoyl, Berner and Makra (all satisfactory). Only the edges of rust has progressed even further here than in Teroson. In Tectyl, Holt's and 3M, the wax layers broke even on a large scale, the flanges rusted heavily. Dry ground: Once the solvents are evaporated from the surfaces of these waxes are brittle and cracked like a dried-clay soil. Moisture and salt to seep freely through the resulting cracks in the sheet. More than a "poor" is not in here. Also the performance of liquid oils, such as fluid film and OWATROL, disappointed. They are distributed in contrast to growth, although good in the box, but not permanently adhere to the surfaces or in corners and edges. In addition, condensation washes the oil off again. All oil-treated test cases covering the inside, therefore a uniform layer corrosion. Some even already rusted through, as is the case of OWATROL. The result of this world's greatest endurance tests not only surprised the expert: The two anti-rust greases from the "craft booths" by Mike and Gerd Sander Mönnich beat the industrially produced oils, waxes and the well-known brand manufacturers. Why is that? Presumably to inadequate testing in the laboratory. Elaborate experiments, like those of AUTO BILD, did not have one. Instead, painted, postcard-sized sheets only have to grow old in fast motion.
