Oil pooling in cylinders...with pics

I had a supercharger poo itself (linky here) and was doing some poking around inside the cylinders with a snap-on camera to check for any bits that might have come out and made their way into the motor. Below is a pic, it is hard to see but on the camers its pretty clear. There is about 3-4 tablespoons of oil in each cylinder at the bottom of its stroke.

I know our motors can see some oil accumulating in the cylinders when they sit for a while, but this seems excessive. I have had trouble starting the car and fouling plugs on start-up, I bet a lot of oil accumulating in the cylinders would not be helpful, maybe even the cause of the plug fouling.

So what do you think, is this much oil an indication of the problem? It is consistent across the cylinders.

I also 'scoped my other motor and I see no oil in the cylinders. That motor has also been sitting, but only for about 45 days (while it gets rewired.)

Both motors are 3.0 SC cases. The dry motor is a 3.0L 11:1 compression on NOS cylinders with JE pistons and goetz rings. About 5K on the motor.

The one with the oil is an 8:1 compression JE pistons with ceramic copper dome coating and low friction skirts. It has been sitting almost 4 months. It has about 6 hours at the dyno and three laps of the track before the supercharger let go.

Any help out there? Is 3-4 tablespoons in the cylinders at the bottom of their "downstroke" after a few months of sitting abnormal?

a few years ago I talked to a Porsche Master Tech. and he explained that it is normal to have oil there.
At that time they were no cameras like yours so in many ways you're in new territory

i have always suspected this to be one of the reasons for smoke at start up. when i start my car, the oil level gage, (i have verified it is acurate), shows no oil in the tank. oil does not return to the tank (my tank) until the car reaches operating temp. this is one of the reasons i dont keep my oil full. i have noticed more oil consumption when it is full so i keep it near the min level. also i suspect bad rings could add to the amount of leakeage. perhaps a leak down/compression test. and check oil level-hot and running.

I been told that its normal enough for the flat six. It results in the usual puff of smoke when starting the engine. This should however disappear shortly after starting. Does it?
