82sc idle adjustment

Got the 82 back from the shop today; mchanic at the track so couldn't consult with him:

He did some ignition work and idle adjustment because he said when I dropped it off idle was around 2000. Not sure why it was that high for him, as that wasn't the case for me.

Now it's idling at 400-500 and wants to stall. Adjustment of the big idle screw had minimal effect and while it idled better after adjustment (engine hot), an hour later when cooled a bit it was stalling again. He had checked for vacuum problems etc so prbably not that. I just don;t understand why the screw has little effect. I'm tempted to mess with the adjuster nut on the cable housing..

Wait until he returns from the track and take the car back. Explain your mystery of the 2K rpm and have him recheck everything to get the idle to its proper place. In the mean time, you could check the timing and point gap at home to see if they are in spec.

Sounds like a vacuum leak based on the idle screw not having any effect. It lets air in/out of the idle circuit.


The timing could be off a tad but unless you know what he set it at, you'd be chasing your tail.

I would wait before doing anything until you talk to the tech. It's HIS problem, IMO.

could be ther plumbing behind the CIS for the AAR and decel valve. big air leak, AAR open?
