front Windshield seal

I hate to start up a new thread but i couldnt find the info i was looking for in forum search(or parts search, for that matter)

Is there a front windshield seal that will fit a 1980 SC that doesnt have the trim groove?

I tried asking the same thing, but got no response. I may end up making one if I can get a toolong quote. I work for a restoration parts warehouse that does aircooled VW's and can have one of our manufacturers that already make the VW seals that way, make ones for the Porsche if there is enough call to justify the expense.

Try a search again. the Carrera (84-89) seal fits with some modification and you have to use a newer windshield. There is info out there.

There is no OEM seal that does not have the groove because the trim expands the seal and locks the seal tightly to the opening.

Most on this forum will never buy a non-factory seal due to the poor quality of fit and subsequent leaking in the aftermarket products, that's probably why there have been no responses. If aftermarket seals without the groove are being discussed, I'd suggest very rigorous testing and high quality control for fit and rubber composition before marketing. If that can be guaranteed, I think you may have many interested in the product but it will have to be proved up front, IMO.

Milo,
I have heard that you can fit and form some wire into the groove... that will not be visible, or probably as big a PITA to install as the stock trim, but provide the expansion and sealing qualities required. You will have to search for more details on that, but maybe someone who has done this will chime in.

Regards,

Al
