Did the optical pickup work ? I have the same dilemah ? Or do I just replace the whole distributor with the Bosch for a simple timing pickup ?

Is that pertronix unit for a Marelli?? I have a Merelli in the basement and would have to look but I dont think the top pc comes off, the weights come off but I think the top plate is one piece. and if that is not designed for the Marelli the plastic pc with the magnets in it may not fit, from memory the cam lobes in the dist shaft is larger than the Bosch unit, but you should be able to measure that with calipers on both the cam and the inside of the plastic pc.

I would be happy to check mine out this evening if needed, I dont think I have seen a pertronix unit in a Marelli, will search the pertronix site later.

My thoughts as well, do your self a favor and find a Bosch unit for many happy miles of motoring :-)

While you have it that far apart look at the "V" on the inside of the advance weights where they push to turn the plate for advance, 90+% says you will see a groove warn into the weights, they were soft, you are not getting the advance you should.

Just my thoughts.

you can also machine down a 72-77 distributor to fit.
