Wheel and tire suggestions?

I have a stock bodied 75 911 with factory Fuch 15x6. The car is not for anything other than playing around in, but would like to increase the wheel diameter and lower tire profile. 17" by chance. My local tire shops seem to know noting other than custom $ 5,000 wheels. Any suggestions?

$5000 for wheels/tires, tell them to go bang their head against the curb. We don't drive stooped bling bling cars.

My 1979 SC is 100% showroom stock except for the radio. If the original Porsche factory look is what you like than go on eBay and find a set of 16 X 7" inch and 16 X 8" Fuschs. Take them to Discount Tire and have them send them out to their vendor to have the wheels trued, lips polished and black re-powder-coated all for $500. They come back looking like brand new wheels out of the box.

You can buy 7 and 8 Fuschs on eBay all day long. You might have to buy the 7's from one person and the 8's from another.

Then get yourself a set of BF Goodrich G-Force Sports at Discount tire, 205/55-16's up front and 225/50-16 in the rear $600 installed and balanced again at Discount Tire.

You can find the wheels on eBay for somewhere between $700 and $1000. Have 'em reconditioned to like new at Dicount Tire (it takes 4 weeks to get them back) for $500 and buy new tires for $600.00. Worst case all for $2100.00

Do some searches on this BBS and you should find some pics of OEM fuchs, SC/Carrera fuchs, and larger diameter wheels.

If you have an original '75, 7" and 8" wide Fuchs may be tight for your fenders. So, keep that in mind when you are looking at pictures of SC's and Carreras. There are plnety of pics of narrow bodied bumper cars for you to find what you are looking for.

Additional reference:
Wheels fitments, all are 17" unless other wise specified

I think definately the 16 x 7 & 8 are too big but 16 x 6 all around with a 205 55 16 is a nice fit, I gave up on doing the 225 50 16 on the 7" rears on my 71, I "THINK" we are dealing with the same fender flair. I am sure others will correct me. :-)

Regards

Alot of your selection will depend on:

1-Your planned usage for the car (Street, Autocross, Track); and

2-Your preferences (stock style wheels, later wheels, aftermarket wheels).

For my '73, I have a set of 16x6 Fuchs for the street with BFG g-Force Sport All seasons (205/55-16) and my original cookie cutters 15x6 have Toyo Proxes R888 (205/50-15) for Autocross/track.

I went w/ 16x7 Fuchs all around c/w 205/50s. You can add a 6mm spacer @ the rears. I like the lowered profile and ride height and the increase in acceleration. Ultimate top speed does not matter to me, and I'm an old guy, strictly street driving.
