What's the best "backside" valve adjustment thread to read?
 

I want to adjust my valves using the backside method, and I know asking any advice on it is just gonna annoy people who will tell me to go search, but I want to make sure I read a thread that is properly informative and will have everything I need to know. I am sure that thread exists, and someone who's been on here a while probably knows it by name. Can any search wizard pull that up and do the response/link thing? TIA!! BTW I read the Pelican Tech infor article on it but there's some vagueness in it that I am hoping a good thread will clear up. Again, thanks in advance!

There is a great description on the back side method on the Tech articles here on Pelican..Just check the Tech info tab and you'll find it...

Did mine last weekend and all worked well... I didn't use backside method only, I actually used both!

Yeah, I read that. It's just kind of vague in places and I'm sure even what's written there has been tweaked and bettered by the people here--and I know they posted about it. That's what I want to be readin'.

x2... I would only use it as a check for the normal method.

The secret to a good valve adjustment is take your time and check and then re check again...
Be as accurate as you can in your measurement of the gaps. I use a dial gauge as a final check. I like to get them as close as possible.
My engine sounds like a well oiled sewing machine at idle.

Also... Because I have brain damage or something I drop the engine once a year for a major service. At this time I do the valves. I sit on a comfortable stool and spend the most part of a day checking, measuring and adjusting the valves. I know I need help but I think it's like a Zen thing for me. A bit like a Japanese carpenter spending hours sharpening his chisels before building a priceless cabinet from scratch.

Do I need help? Probably yes but somehow the annual service has become part of my personality. My kids don't see me for a week and my girl friend misses me and complains about it however she is the first to pinch the keys and take it for a "test drive"...

This is what I do. Once I got done I had John Walker take a listen and he said that I must have the method figured out.
