Broke strap tab on 81 SC airbox...
Well, that _ucks. Found the strap loose - now I know why. I have included a picture of the Gorilla Glue drying - I do not hold out much hope that the glue will do the job. May have to "rig" something considering a new air box is MAJOR $$$.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258079241.jpg I am open to ideas and comments. I apologize I do not have any pictures of attractive ladies like the guy with the oil condensation problem. Ray |
Lol, my cover straps are starting to dry rot. I should get some new ones probably.
|
I broke one too, when trying to secure the box with new stiffer straps. Oh well, there is one tab left and that is enough the hold the cover.
|
Not lol...
Let the glue dry but I wouldn't use that tab. You should look at making a new tab from a piece of alloy and installing it next to the repaired one. Make it T shaped so you can glue/screw it to the backside of the air-box. (hope this makes sense) The bottom tabs don't line up properly with the top hooks anyway. The rubber straps are forgiving. For others considering after market silicone straps... It may pay to reinforce these tabs with alloy from the rear before installing the new straps. |
Two words: duct tape

I had a good airbox with broken tabs, and a bad airbox with good tabs.
Dremel, JB Weld, a couple of clamps, and 24 hours cure time....still holding strong 2 years later. There was some pucker factor when installing the brand-new straps for the first time... |
Thanks!!!
Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for your replies and comments. I am going to have to rig some kind of tab - there is just no way that glue will hold. I regret not using JB weld. Now that I have Gorilla Glued it - it now has that chemical on the break. I just hate having something "not right" in the engine compartment. If anyone has a used one out there - please PM me. Thanks. Ray |
I have two off a 77 motor if they fit

Here is an idea to fix it: cut an aluminum piece with a tab on it, glue it along the edge with JB weld. You can make the piece as long as needed to increase contact area for gluing.
