Off-Topic Posts - Comments by Wayne...

While some of you think that this board should be entirely technical content, it would seem impossible to hold it to that. Thankfully though, the Bulletin Board Software allows you to filter through the stuff that you don't like to read (unlike the Boxster Board's Software), and skip the annoying or off-topic posts.

The more people are here, the more colorful, diverse, and technically adept the members of the board will be. I'm not likely to stop anyone from posting, or to reduce the amount of posts, or off-topic posts in the near future. It's bad for the community and it's bad for business too.

The 944 Forum has had a bunch of problems in the past (profanity, pornography, violent threats against other members). Those types of digressions will not be tolerated. We have recently installed an active Moderator to keep posts on topic and devoid of problems. However, the 911 forum has maintained a sense of decorum, and probably will continue as is. If you don't have an interest in reading a topic, then don't click on the hyperlink.

In general, I'm happy with the way that the boards are going right now. Off-topic discussions are sometimes entertaining, and I read them as well. In fact, most are not super-off-topic, like Go Lakers or something random like that. Most are related to Porsches.

So sorry if your screen gets a little cluttered with some OT stuff. Right now, it doesn't seem too bad to me. The board gets so much traffic now, that you almost have to scroll through a bunch of pages anyways if you don't read it everyday.

Suggestions for additional, or sub-boards are welcome, but as we can see with the Porsche Talk Forum, they don't always work right out of the box.

Who's not reading everyday. The board has taken the place of my morning newspaper. At least there is more variety on the Pelican board than the Shreveport Times. "Who Shot Who" is getting old here in Dodge City.

Even though my last post was 'I'm outa here' I could not bring myself to change the BBS as my homepage and cannot resist reading the funny posts aswell as the related/informative posts!
It's an addiction!
All I need now is a 911 that runs http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/rolleyes.gif

I agree wayne...reading NOTHING but Porsche technical can get boring..then the off topic posts are good for entertainment. Heck, even the worst of newspapers runs a comics section. Off Topic a way for people to let their creative juices flow...

it's customers that drive any market.

if Porsche owners want to talk about something unrelated to technical issues, that's fine with me..

cause I do it sometimes too http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Wayne,
I like to think we're sort of a support group, or perhaps a family of sorts. Oh yeah. We bicker about a few things but if someone has a problem, the members of this board are right there. You can't regulate that sort of thing. It either happens or it doesn't. Happy Father's Day y'all!

Thanks for the forum, Wayne. It'll always be a centerpeice for most of the Porsche nuts around.

I have been gone for about 2 days and was surprised at how much I missed the site, including the occasional looney OT threads. I feel the occasional diversion is fairly entertaining, so long as no one gets too irate or personal. On top of that it's an incredible technical resource. Thanks Wayne!
My 2 cents,
Buck

Wayne, this board has been an increadible help to everyone (in many more ways than just tech stuff). It's a fuzzy line anyway (between what is or isn't of relevance to the people who use the board). Hats off to you for maintaining a liberal approach, and providing this awesome gathering place for people interested in P-cars.

Great balance!

I like the technical with a bit of the "lifestyles" section thrown in for flavor.

I agree that most of the OT threads are not that far OT from Porsche.

Thanks Wayne!
