Radar Detector?

Has anyone ever heard of the dealer selling a K12 front and rear radar detector in 1989 for the 911? I cant seem to find any info on it. I contacted the original owner of my car and told me one of the accessories he had put in from the dealer was this K12 front and rear radar. Any help would be great. Pictures?

i think your looking for a whistler k12 or an escort k12 radar detector , they where the front runners back then.

K was the highest band pickup the L (lazer) was not available, check if someone knows brands sold then at the dealership and that would narrow you down.

hope this helps i'll keep an eye out and get back if i find more out ... .

I remember their advertising...a hidden detector, IIRC. Front unit hid in a fog light, rear unit I forget where. $pendy then...and probably obsolete as protection these days.

Is it possible that you are looking for K40? I had one in my '92 that was installed by the dealer using an aftermarket installer.

Scooter, You may be right. I will check with the original owner that bought the car in 89. What do you think the chance is i could find one from that era? I want to keep the car as original as passable.

If you want to use a radar dector, IMO the best choice is Valentine, and has been for some time. The patented arrows are invaluable when trying to locate the "source".

Hey Roc Doc,

I not really interested in using it. I just want to get the car back the way it came from the dealer in 89. (Period Correct).

I had a K40 in my 1998 M3. It was cool with the front and rear diffuser, but the Valentine is functionally better.

I like the Bel Detectors. About 1/2 the price of Escort of Valentine and easily as good. The also make a remote front and rear unit. take a look at the website. I find eBay a good place to buys detectors.

I actually think it has always been K40. They've been in business for about 30 years under the same name K40.

Well i finally found a K40 Front and Rear radar detector. Does anyone else have one of the old units in the car? Or pictures of one installed? If so can you take some pictures of the location of the Front and Rear positions of the sensors? Im trying to find out were exactly they would have put the front and rear sensors and how they were wired up.
