I have a 73 911T Targa which the PO put some more 'modern' side mirrors on the drivers and passengers side. I just purchased a replica of the large Durant side mirror for the drivers side. However, I must admit that I'm a bit stumped on installation. It appears that the Durant has two bolts that are to be mounted into the door, and then the bolt heads have a groove that the mirror slides into. However, to tighten all things down, I would seem to need to be able to put a nut on the other end of the bolt from inside the door to snug things up. If anyone has experience with this type of installation, I'd love the help. Feeling like a real newbie here.

You should have two corresponding access holes on the inside. If so, place the nuts into a socket and work them onto the studs. May need a flexible extension for the socket. If you don't have the access holes then I'm not sure what is going on - unless the original door was replaced.

Pozee has nailed it. The two holes are on the inside of the dog leg, usually covered by two rubber plugs. Open the door and you will see them.
You did not mention if you got a Durant for the passenger side, but if you did and the PO mounted the passenger side mirror using the same access holes in the dog leg, they will not work for the Durant mirror, and probably didn't work too well for the mirror that was mounted. The mounting point for the passenger side is further back and higher on the door so the driver can see through the vent window into the mirror. If the old mirror was mounted incorrectly, use tape to temporarily mount the passenger Durant until you find the spot where you can actually use it. Mounting will require removal of the door panel to access the nuts which screw onto the mirror studs. If you are lucky, the old mirror was mounted in the correct spot, but you'll still have to remove the door panel to mount the Durant.
