Project 68, 911L
My friends and I have undertaken an ambitious project, resurrecting a rather pitiful 68 911L. It started as a desire for a long hood car and has come to this point thus far. Just wanted to share...
Starting point, a poor abused and shadily sold 68. They seller should (insert creative expletive here) for advertising the car as he did....mostly solid my...anyway. Porsche isn't making any new ones, and all the good cars in the US are still going back to Europe. This is what got delivered. ![]() ![]() We stripped her down, and took her to be blasted. ![]() ![]() Please note the quality of the front pan replacement, the several inch overlap of steel. ![]() ![]()

The blasting revealed all the horrors...
![]() Rustmites had done their damage under almost every panel, worse were the attempts to repair it hiding under the filler. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So then she was put on a cart for further dis-assembly. ![]()

Surveying the damage, we have decided to clip the rear end behind the firewall.
![]() Braces were added to hold the shape. ![]() ![]() Now we removed more of the offending metal ![]() ![]() and continued to the inner panels ![]() ![]() The torsion tube had been replaced at some point, but only connected to the outer sheet metal. ![]() ![]() So next step is to prepare the donor clip for fitting, that should be done in the next few weekends.

Drivers side is off now. More evidence of a bad torsion tube replacement.

Curious to see your progress. Lots of good threads on the DDK of cars with similar issues. Spend the time to do it right and you will have quite a car when you're done

Squeezed in some time over the holidays, got the donor car prepped for the media blaster. Marked in red when I needed blasting...
![]() ![]() Best part was my son was in town, he helped with getting most of the front suspension off the 68. ![]()

Hi John,
There appears to be less of yours than there is of mine. I'll be watching your progress, it will all be worth it in the end. Chris |

Waiting in line behind 6 weeks worth of Nascar chassis at the media blaster, so I finished pulling the front suspension and clearing the dash today.
