Roof mounted heat sensor...

Has anyone relocated the roof mounted heat sensor between the visors on the "84" to the dash location on the later models? I'm gong to install a new headliner and it would seem like a good time to remove the "rubber nipple" from the roof.

There appears to be a ring indent for a cut out on the dash where the sensor grill would go.

Have you tried some of the Porsche wrecking yards? Do you have the wiring in place? I'm checking with Pelican to see if the sensor is available. I'll keep ya posted if I come up with a late model sensor and I can make the update.

it's a little more complicated than just relocating it. the one in the dash actually has a little fan to move air across the sensor.

I'm out of town for the week but I just removed the auto heater setup from my car. The sensor is probably still in my trash can.
Send me a PM next Saturday to remind me and if I can find it it's yours for free.

Ken,

Glenn with Pelican Parts advises me that he hasn't been able to find a fan behind the dash for the heat sensor in the "88" PET parts manual.

Do you know if that was an original part? Maybe it wasn't used on every model year? Any direction will be appreciated.

Would you, don't be bashful anyone can chime in on this, if I bring the sensor cable down from the roof everything from the console to the cable should be the same. I just need to change out the sensor to make the sensor location change?

Thanks,

All of my later cars had the fan in the dash. You can always try it and go back to the original arrangement if it doesn't work well. Keep the old wire routed to the top of the windscreen and run a new one to the dash.
