Which Pertronix Ignitor 1 or Ignitor 2.
 

I would like to switch to pertronix ignition but I don't know which ignitor to use ignitor 1 or ignitor 2. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I assume you have a stock '76 911S, like I do. We have one of the few 911's for which an Ignitor II is offered. I installed an Ignitor II several years ago and have had no problems at all. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two types...something to do with varying dwell at high RPM. In any case, installation was easy (push HARD to seat the plastic magnet carrier on the cam). I also installed an MSD 6A with remote limiter, and Magnacores. Everything has been reliable.

I just put in my Igniter 2 (purchased from our host) a couple of weeks ago. The car idles dead freakin' smooth, starts great and I have had no problems. I even degreased the engine this weekend, didn't bother covering the distributor, and it started right up. I could even rinse it down as it ran. No issues.

I installed the red power wire to the fuse block to the left of the engine on the top posts nearest the rear. The black wire gets grounded. I had to increase the length of the red wire to make it there.

The only trouble I ran into was removing the screw for the wire pass through out of the distributor body. See if you can turn this screw without taking the distributor out. If you take the distributor out, just make sure you mark the body and rotor, or you will have to re-time the engine (like I did).

you will need to reset timing regardless. set to tdc #1 and remove dizzy to avoid losing small screws and such.

i believe i read that the ignitor II will not fry itself if the ignition is left on without starting the car. don't really understand what that's about so can't be sure.
