Replace windshield in summer?
I was getting ready to order a new windshield and seal and have it installed in a couple of weeks and then I got to thinking, would it be better to wait and do this in the summer? I was wondering if the colder temps would mess with the seal & the sealant. I am in houston, 50/75 temps currently, may get a little colder in Dec.

should be no problem. It's not like you're going to do it in subzero temperatures...
Rubber might be a little less flexble, not as soft as in hot weather, which might make it a little more difficult to install. Are you using sealant with a new seal?? I'm not sure if that is really necessary. Read the instructions of the sealant, they should mention temperature limits for application. |
I'm taking it to a windshield shop. When I had my '74 replaced they used some sort of black sealant that stayed semi-pliable. They used it around he outside edge and very little.
Thanks for the reply! |
The seals in our cars are designed to be installed without sealant.
However in the real world some shops will use a non silicone sealant that stays soft. If they do a good job it will look fine. But if it was me I wouldn't use any sealant. My car would rarely see rain and is garaged most of the time. |
