Recently while driving my 1980 911 SC, the clutch pedal became inoperable in that it depressed only part way and did not disengage the clutch. I tried pushing hard and may have bent "things" as the clutch pedal is now almost fully depressed, does not return, and does not disengage the clutch. What happened? Hopefully, this is a clutch linkage problem.

my clutch just recently did this and it was the aluminum bracket that is mounted to the tranmission under the car. The bracket had cracked and the calbe had slipped thru the bracket. It was not appearent at first that the bracket was broken. Ordered a new one from PP for $23.00

I am pretty sure the SC doesn't have the bracket referred to by Speedman. I too have an 80 SC and have not seen the bracket under the car. What you need to do is start looking around. It could be the roll pin in the pedals but it doesn't sound like it. My bet is on the cable breaking. They are cheap ($70 or so at Pelican) and easy to replace. If these don't work, you might have an issue with the fork that actuates the throw out bearing?
Jack it up and take a look! Good luck. Larry |

Clutch hangup problem
Thanks for the inputs. I think I may have a problem with the clutch pedal shaft. The problem may have started when one of the leaves of the over-center spring broke and rotated and possibly jammed the clutch lever mechanism. My over exuberance in pushing down the clutch pedal may have either twisted the shaft or sheared the roll pin. I think the latter is unlikely as the pedal and shaft seem quite attached. I replaced the clutch cable (which appeared to be ok) and followed the excellent Pelican Technical Article on the subject. The article did not mention the possibility of the release lever not sliding off the clutch cross shaft, but that was covered in Bentley. After doing all of this, the clutch pedal travel with the floor board installed was not enough to actuate the clutch. I adjusted the clevis all the was to the cable and I can actuate the clutch if I remove the floor board and push the clutch pedal all the way to the sheet metal. My next step is to rebuild the pedal cluster asm. Has anyone experienced this problem?
