Factory rear tow hook point: Where is it?
I've searched the forums here at Pelican, and it seems like the factory rear tow hook point is inside the rear bumper, near the driver's side rear bumper pad, covered by a rubber plug.
I have a US-spec late '83 SC, and I don't see any plug on the rear bumper--is it covered by the larger US-spec rear bumper pads? The reason I ask is my factory toolkit does not have a tow hook, and I'm not sure whether it simply shouldn't have one or it was lost and needs replacing. Could someone post a pic with their factory tow hook in place, so we can see what it looks like installed? |

Do you have an owner's manual? It will give the details.
There is a rubber plug on the left side of the bumper. Remove it and insert the tow hook from your tool kit. I think you need to insert and twist to engage the hook thingy behind the bumper. If you can get your head under the bumper, you'll see where it engages. |

Interesting. I wonder why they deleted them. I have a Euro car so I forget sometimes that they are slightly different.
How do you tow yours, in this case? |
Don't know if it is the same as an SC but my Carrera has a rear tow hook on the right under-side behind the bumper. Its attached to the bumper shock mount I believe.

I can take a picture of mine for you later when I get home. I have the hookie thing too!

I know. Old post but my 83 Euro 911 SC has a tow hook location in rear bumper. Can i use that? Want to make sure its structural. And what is part number of the hook? Thanks

i would think if it is factory , then it is a go... i have the access hole in the bumper of my 88 911 but i don't have the screw in tow hook. need to fix that.

My 85 911 factory tool kit does not come with a tow hook. There is no hole in the bumper on either end for a tow hook to attach. I have no idea why, except maybe it saved a few bucks when the car was made. Porsche was near bankruptcy back then, and every penny counted. That or the car is so reliable, it never breaks down! ;)

Thanks...still looking for the part number of the hook. Any ideas?

I've just looked in PET and I see all the individual tool part numbers in the toolkit - EXCEPT - I don't see anything called out for the tow hook!

Mark,
Try looking for a Towing Lug 911 721 051 00. That's what it's called in my 83 PET. |
Yeah old post, I never had one either but bought a used one for $40, still its always a quandary to get this bugger to lock in. But in case anyone w/o owners manual needs a pictorial …here’s some ...

This is the hook style tow hook for the SCs. The poster has a Euro Carrera, they use the screw-in style.
Here is a better view of the receiver for the hook, easy access with the engine out. https://photos.smugmug.com/Cars/Pors...nection-X2.jpg Mark |
Wow...thanks for photos. But mine clearly has threads in the hole. Thinking it has to screw in. Still searching...

Mine is a 77S and the "tow hook" is in the tool kit in the frunk that came with the car.
Like the picture below......Pop the cap on the bumper and insert. Not sure if this answers your questions. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704394273.jpg |
