Early Strut inserts for 68 912
I recently purchased a very nice original condition 68 912 which has very stiff suspension. I wanted to get the soft ride of the car back with Boge front and rear, but find front inserts are NLA. What is the community of early owners doing for replacements?
Thanking you in advance for any help. ![]()

Konis on full soft, however, be absolutely certain that the suspension bushings are good before changing the shocks. Look at the rear torsion bar cover-- is the springplate tube centered in the cover? Usually over time the bushings cold-flow around it and the gap at the bottom is greater than the gap at the top. Ditto the front control arm bushings.

+1 on above checking out your stiffness, not a regular complaint on the 9 dozen,
I have externally adjustable Konis on the front of my 66 912 Coupe and love them, and may be the trick for you to dial in what you like. I have boge on a 67 912 euro targa, that is too soft for my liking but is a driver, project waiting it turn for up grade. I have a set of older very low mile Konis on a 68 parts 912 F&R. Check on binding on your stiffness expecially if car has not seen much useage. You may want to check out the 912bbs, a wealth of information on the Porsche stepchild. You should expect and get great handeling, my 66 coupe I have had for about 9 yrs is very dialed in, so much better than my 71 911 Targa, but the winter project is lined up for it. Happy to help on any 912 information. Regards |

Thanks to both of you. I'll check bushings and it appears that koni shocks may be the right solution.
