Rear interior panels and retractors
I have a 1970 911 E that has had retracting seat belts added by bolting the retractors down to the rear floor. I'm redoing the interior and I'm wondering if I can mount the retractors under the side panels (as the later models did). If so will getting 72-73 rear side panels work to tidy everything up? I'm not familiar with how these were mounted and/or if there are different size retractors so any input or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alex |

Yes you can mount the retractors under the side panels. When I did this in my '70 tub, I found a tapped hole in the tub that I used for mounting the retractors. They landed up being a bit off center but it works well with the '72-'73 side panels that have the slot for the belts (make sure you also use the plastic inserts). I also bolted a newer style receiver between the seats using bolts and nylock nuts.

Retractors and side panels
Thanks so much for you detailed reply and photos. That was very helpful. I guess I just need to find the 72/73 side panels now.
Thanks again, Best, Alex |

Alex,
The side panels shown above are for the '74 MY onwards. They may work well as Sergio has described but the '73 MY and earlier are a bit smaller. It depends on how correct you want these to be. There was a thread on the Early S site about this very topic in the last week or two. These are what you should be looking for - ![]() Cheers, Dennis. ![]()
