Rear interior panels and retractors

I have a 1970 911 E that has had retracting seat belts added by bolting the retractors down to the rear floor. I'm redoing the interior and I'm wondering if I can mount the retractors under the side panels (as the later models did). If so will getting 72-73 rear side panels work to tidy everything up? I'm not familiar with how these were mounted and/or if there are different size retractors so any input or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Yes you can mount the retractors under the side panels. When I did this in my '70 tub, I found a tapped hole in the tub that I used for mounting the retractors. They landed up being a bit off center but it works well with the '72-'73 side panels that have the slot for the belts (make sure you also use the plastic inserts). I also bolted a newer style receiver between the seats using bolts and nylock nuts.

Retractors and side panels

Thanks so much for you detailed reply and photos. That was very helpful. I guess I just need to find the 72/73 side panels now.

Thanks again,

Best,

Alex

Alex,

The side panels shown above are for the '74 MY onwards.
They may work well as Sergio has described but the '73 MY and earlier are a bit smaller.
It depends on how correct you want these to be.
There was a thread on the Early S site about this very topic in the last week or two.
These are what you should be looking for -

Cheers,
Dennis.
