original headlights '70 911E

I have a chance to buy a set of original headlights for my car to replace the H4s I now have, do you guys recommend this or is going too far for originality, I understand the original lights aren't as good as the H4s. Any thoughts or advise would be appreciated, thanks, Rick.

I assume you now have the complete h4 assemblies in your car. You can buy H-4 light units that fit into the stock, Sugar Scoop headlight assemblies of the 70 E. That way, if you like the look of the stock headlight, you can also have the improved lighting of the H-4 bulb and lens. I don't know if the light pattern is the same as the complete h-4 assembly you now have (probably not) but it is better than stock sealed beam U.S. units.

Rick - I have a 70T with the original headlights except that I have installed Hella H4 upgraded
light units. Looks original and you get H4 performance instead of the original sealed beams.
It is plug and play. I wanted the car as original as possible even though the chrome "sugar
scoops" don't look as good. By the way, our host sells the Hella H4 upgrade #70476-M44 for
$57.50 each, 2 req'd.

I put original euro H1's on my 70t. I figure that if they were good enough for the rest of the world, they are good enough for me. Plus they look much better (IMHO) than the US spec stuff.

I'm a little confused, (I'm stil a newbie I guess, bought the car in June of this year) The car was sold in Germany and brought to Canada when the originally owner moved here, what would have been the originally lights? I thought they were the "sugar scoops" is that rigth? thanks for your helpful comments, Rick.

Little different scenario with the new information.

Original equipment in Europe was different than the U.S. The sugar scoops were U.S. originals but if your car now has h-4's and the original lights were changed when the car was brought from Germany, then the original lights were probably h-1's. At least that's how I read your posts.

Thanks for the info. Ossieblue. Can you tell me what the H1's look like? I don't see any reference to them on our host's site, thanks again, Rick.

The H1's look similar to the H4's. The problem is that they havent been made for years and good sets go for $600-1000 a pair if you can find them. I think I would just stay with the H4's.

It is going too far for originality.

You could buy them and put them in a box, since all cars get sold or given away someday...

Thanks Carrerax, I think i will stay with the H4's. The reason I started thinking this way was I got a bad stone chip in one lens and have to replace it, the sugar scoops I found were really reasonable. Thanks again for your help, saved me from making a mistake, Rick.

You only need to replace the H4 lens if it is chiped, our host sells these lenses as spare parts.
