Remove headlight adjustment screws from ring?

Hi,

I've just picked up a new H4 chrome headlight ring, as my old one was dented.

I thought it'd be an easy swap, as I'd taken a headlight apart a few times.

But how do I transfer the existing adjustment screws to the new ring?

Thanks,
Adam

You will have to somehow cut off the collar that is located near the screw head, on the inside of the ring. IIRC, it is brass and I don't believe you can unscrew it so it will have to be cut away. I've seen rings with the screw secured by a nut in that position when they were reinserted, though you could probably crimp a new small, brass collar to the area.

Unless someone has a better way, that's what you are facing.

Grab the small collar with a needle-nose plier, then unscrew with a Phillips.
Save the small rubber grommet.

The thread is M4 I think, take the screw along.

Go to your favourite hardware store and get a couple 4 mm nuts (Nylok self-locking preferred)
Slide the rubber grommet over the screw, thread on the M4 nut only enough so the screw can still turn in the ring.

If the nut is not self-locking, use some glue to lock it.

Just did mine as Gunter suggests. Use 4 mm nylocks, I also used nylon washers to tighten against. worked out great.

thanks for you advice..

I managed to get one off by holding it with needle nose pliers and unscrewed.

However the second one wouldn't come off. Despite holding it still with the pliers, it does not follow the thread on the screw. Might have to cut it off I guess. What tool would you use for that?

Smaller needle-nose pliers holding the collar and using leverage (Prying) at the same time forcing it to follow the thread without doing damage to the screw.

Patience.

Needle nose pliers and patience, that is what is needed. This has got to be one of the crappiest designs by Porsche engineers.
