Any Forums like Pelican for Ferraris?

I know some may consider this question sacrilege, but my father has always dreamed of owning a Ferrari, not new but something older.

I know what a great source of information this forumn has been for me with my project and I was hoping to point him in a similar direction to start doing his research.

Can anyone here recommend a site?

FerrariChat.com - The Online Ferrari Forum and Community

Dunno if it's the best, but it's the one I've heard of most, by far.

Ferrarichat

WWW.Ferrarichat.com is the best Ferrari enthusiast website.

You will find quite a bit of overlap with the members, as many own both examples of both marquees.

I'm on Ferrarichat.com and there are some real hot rodders on the forum. Good stuff. My sacrilige is that with the soft Maser market I've parked the 911s and am driving a 2002 30,000 mile 4.2 Maser spider for about the same cost as a 98 911 with a lot more miles. Love that 4.2 motor.

I've been looking at the Masers, too. How's the reliability & performance compared to the 991?

Bryan:

The spyder has a fairly short wheelbase which makes the car very manueverable and the turn in seems faster than the 911. The engine seems to rev more responsively than CIS or early motronic Porsches. Power might be said to be on a par with a stock 930 but without the lag. Car likes smooth roads. The problem is not the same as on the coupes, but they have a ponderously long wheelbase. The F1 tranny is pretty incredible and that's coming from a very die hard manual shifter kind of guy. However it can be a pain in slow stop and go or in long slow backups. Clutch life could be very short if not understood and at best perhaps half the life of what I can nurse out of normal clutches. I don't have enough experience with this gizmetry to know for sure. Only had the car fo a bit over a month, so nothing has gone wrong. Historically, Maserati stuff has been notoriously expensive, but some aftermarket clutches and brake pads appear to be on par with P car parts.

My 911s have been a pleasure in any kind of driving. My 928s were sublime in all but stop and go situations. The Maserati may be more akin to the 928 except that the tranny ratios and high numerical rear end ratios erase the weight feel of getting it going. Italian isn't for everyone.

My current commute is less than 5 miles which seems to get the Maser up to operating temperature. I would feel badly to subject my aircooled engines to that short of a drive even in this hot climate. They seem to just reach decent temperatures around 8 miles. Because of this I had been commuting in my 951 till it caught fire.

I'm looking at Maranello 550's and thinking that they make a nice daily driver. Prices are about the same as a nice GT3 though so obviously this would be a very very difficult choice to have to make.
