Post Paint repair question--rash on rear fenders

My 993 is starting to get rock chip rash on the rear fenders--not the larger chips, but the multiple, tiny chips that in mass, look like a rash. My car never came with the rear stoneguards (or the first owner took them off), which most 993's have since the car has wider fenders.

What are my options in fixing this? I'd like to get it cleaned up, and then put the stoneguards on (don't like the look, but my old 911's got this rash so bad, it looked horrible; and repainting the fender is a big job). I've always taped the fenders on interstate trips, but I've noticed more rash from around town driving. I've seen the paint repair guys who spray a special mix of paint, then wipe it off; leaving no trace of there ever being any damage. I purchased langka, and have thought about filling each of the little holes with touchup paint, and then gently buffing the whole area with the langka the next day. Any suggestions? What have you guys done about this problem?

Thanks!
David
