Upgrade AC Ducting & Dash

I've been thinking for a while about replacing all of the AC ducting & Dash in my 83 SC Coupe to the later style. I've upgraded most of the AC within my budget & realize that airflow is the restricting factor. I'm going to teardown for a repaint (2nd time in the last 13 ) years & would like to know if anyone has done this & any inherent problems that might arise.
My part time employment will be sparse thru the next month, but I do have a paint shop @ my disposal.

Also, If anyone has the parts needed for this conversion.......let me know.
Thanks, Steve

On my '83 SC Coupe, I replaced the lower "bow tie" with the Griffiths aftermarket vent diffuser and flex pipe. That alone made a remarkable difference in the airflow volume into the interior. The coldest conditioned air comes from that location as well.

Thanks........did that about 10 years ago......I live in FLA........short of the Griffiths condenser, I've done everything else. I am on an unemployed budget also.

You can also replace the tiny end vents on the dash (so small they're hard to find) with the Griffiths type pretty easily. Helps almost as much as the bowtie fix.

There's a post here somewhere where someone did that with pictures. I think they had to do a little metal cutting behind the lower side dash vents to use the '86 on larger vents.
I think the metal cutting was just to fit them in there and the hoses are larger diameter too.
Once installed it looked and worked just like the later cars and you couldn't see any of the metal cuts.

If you have footwell blowers there is a small hose that goes from them up to the larger side vents and a little heat will come out of them when it's turned on.

I live in S. Florida and I only considered an '86 on car when looking because of those much better AC vents.
Another nice thing is the top center vent is also bigger and shaped a little different in a nice way and the foam rubber under the plastic or leather dash above it does_not swell up and look absolutely ridiculous like the '85 and earlier cars when the car is parked repetitively in the hot southern summer sun.

You will have to cut some of the dash to install the larger center dash vent. I did that upgrade on the 78.
