I mixed up the wiring for the gas/oil gauge

I wanted to remove the glass to clean the back of it and I somehow have goofed up the wiring. Can someone out there pop out your gauge and take a pic of the wiring and post it?

does anyone have a wiring diagram.

There is on light with one wire and one light with two wires.

Does the light with one wire go to the bottom of the gauge?
Dark green to the left bottom, light green to right bottom?

Double red with one wire to the light top left?

The other two double reds go to the top right and middle red for the oil?

It works fine like this but if I turn on the headlights the gas gauge goes up to half a tank like its spring loaded.

Rob,

Post a picture of the wires. I got a factory wiring diagrams for SC's. And will advise you where they attach.

Its dark out and the pic is lousy. Like I mentioned, the gas gauge works but when I put the headlights on it goes up to half a tank, I'm puzzled.

I cant see anything in your pics but check the wiring diagram and ensure your grounds are good. Poltergeist behavior like gas gauges going up when lights are turned on are often symptoms of a bad ground connection.

Everything is fine. I pulled the gauge out for 15 minutes, popped off the bezel cleaned the back of the glass and when I reinstalled it I must have mixed up something.

Where is a wiring diagram?

In the "Technical Articles" section.

A Workshop or Bentley manual is also a must-have.

Is this a game show? If I had a Bentley with a wiring diagram do you think I'd be asking where I could find a wiring diagram.

I promise to get a Bentley but in the meantime to get me out of this dilemma can one of you point me to somewhere that shows how to connect the wires on the back of the fuel gauge.

No, its not a game show, its a forum where you are asking for free help. If you want to be sarcastic to people trying to help then see how far you go.

My suggestion for Bentley or a Workshop manual was best-intentioned. I dont sell them and have nothing to gain by selling them. I took the time to read your post, think about your problem, examine your pics and suggest a ground might be your problem.

If you dont like it then dont ask.

It looks like you are missing the ground ( brown ) wire. It is hard to tell with the rave lighting. Could you get a better pic today in the sunlight?

Wow!

You displayed the same attitude couple months ago and were advised to get the Bentley or use the Tech section on Pelican for the diagram:

Which relay controls the fog lights?

Instead of berating people that are trying to help, why not find the wiring diagram in the Tech section or get the Bentley like you promised 2 months ago?

You can also just mark the wires before disconnecting them.

Reflect and reconsider.

Thanks to all. I had the double brown and green/white switched.

Gunter, I read the post about the fogs and all I can derive from your comment is something that I wrote about the year and model with a comment incase you werent looking. I'll make sure I get that Bentley's manual as soon as possible.

To everyone else:

I enjoy this forum and it has saved me countless amounts of money because I have been able to tackle problems with the car on my own.

In the non forum world if someone asks a question they get an answer. Some members on this forum feel the need to be the classroom monitor.

Now in this post if you read up a bit JohnJL told me to check the wiring diagam, I'm thinking he's confused no one has posted a wiring diagram. I searched though many posts before I asked for help and came up with zip. I searched through the 911 parts catalog and could not find anything as well.

For those I have offended, I apologize.

Crustychief, your post saved the day, its all I was asking for... a pic.

Have a great day!

Help is right here:

Go to the top where it says: "Tech Info Center".
Click on it.
To the left of the next page you'll find: "Electrical Diagrams"
Click on it.

It's that easy.

The whole idea is that people do some search of their own before asking for help since most problems have been covered many times before.

Lots of info about all kinds of issues and problems in the Tech Help; Pelican rocks.
When you get the Bentley, correct one major error on several pages: The distributor turns ccw, not cw.

Classroom monitor.

Gunther, I did check those diagrams last night and didn't see anything on the gauges, I must have missed it.

Thanks man! Have a good one.

It was a ground problem. Glad you fixed it.
