Sportomatic ID number?
Hey guys,
Is there a way to tell if an early long hood car, pre-74 naturally, was originally equipped with a Sportomatic transmission? Any number in the VIN that signifies this? Thanks!

Nope. The VIN is just the serial # of the car, doesn't say anything about paint, interior or transmission type.

There's generally a few giveaways... Engine number will tell you if it was originally turning a sporto
1. check the firewall for lugs that once held the vacuum canister 2. check intake manifolds for check valves (or bolt heads to fill them) 3. check sheet metal near where throttle rod comes through for another larger hole that used to have vacuum hoses passing through. 4. check for a third fuse on the engine compartment fuse array 5. check oil tank for two small blanking bungs - they're sporto oil supply and return lines 6. there may be evidence of a sporto oil pump hanging off the front of the left side cam shaft.
