Gunson Gastester Question

Has anyone here ever had the plastic tube that goes from the unit to the probe melt from the heat while it was in the exhaust?

BTW...I'm putting the probe in the O2 sensor hole to read the exhaust before the CAT.

Nope, it gets very soft and flexible, but never melted. Did you leave it in for a long time? I know the metal tube gets very hot.

could it be running too lean?

Had mine in the exhaust for 30 minutes while chasing a gremlin,,,did not melt. The metal tube was very hot and the tubing soft.

Not sure but it would seem you are running lean to get that hot.

I guess it could be the angle that I had the probe propped up, that the end punctured through the hose when it got hot and soft. I wonder if there is a better hose I could get for it.

It won't get hot enough to melt at idle, but don't place the tube close to the very hot cat. I tried it at speed in the tailpipe and the hose melted due to the exhaust volume (the Gunson isn't designed for road testing)....... the engine coughed the metal tube onto the freeway..... somewhere. My new fabricated and upgraded sensor pipe has a section that helps isolate the heat from the PVC hose.
