Changing it up…slightly…for now.
After having the old girl for over 28 years, it’s fun to change it up a little. From bone stock with factory front and rear spoilers, I’ve enjoyed each change.
Went with C2 17” wheels around 99…replaced the stock bumpers in Colorado around 2002 with the Ruf style bumpers…removed the Carrera rear spoiler and went slick tail then went to the 964 retractable spoiler about 18 years back. Removed the sugar scoops and went to H-5 headlights. Went to euro tail light lenses. Changed to a momo wheel around 23 years back. Removed and sold the flag mirrors and went to 935 mirrors around 17 years back. Went back to Fuchs about 15 years ago (had to purchase replacements as my originals were sold to a guy in Norway). Moved the sevens to the front and went with 9” in the rear. Found replacement flags and went back to them about 10 years ago. Added stripes about 8 years ago. Found replacement front and rear bumpers and put them in the rafters for the future about 5 years ago. Numerous other changes… Magnaflow muffler, Steve W chip, A/C delete, heater backdate, a few stereo changes, radio delete then a Bluetooth only receiver addition, Door panel change to RS style, seat reupholstry, ashtray removal and air/fuel and amp meter gauge customization in place, remove seats and replace with 82 sports( hated them as too narrow in my shoulders..sold them to someone in Canada)..bought 944 manual comfort seats and recovered them, on and on and on. Things I have learned. Don’t sell old parts as you may want to go back. Make the car right for you…fads come and go but if you want to adopt a change…do it. Have fun and use the damn car as it was meant to be used and please no one but yourself. My last project was this weekend..I wanted a change to the RSR look for the Fuchs. A few hours, a little tape, water and some paint gave me what I want…for now. Last week..the wheels looked like this. What really started this project was some “odd handling”….realized my tires were 9 years old…HAD TO GO!!! The tires had great tread on the front and “good enough” tread on the rear but they were not up to the challenge of the roads I like to run on.

Great stuff and wise learnings.
Someone's tagline here is... "Your classic car owns you, you own your hot rod." You are definitely owning it!

Excellent advise. I've been there too.

Maybe change to a 914/6 if you really want a change.

My first car was a bumble bee 914…wish I had never sold it and have a real soft spot for the 914’s. A six would be awesome.

Pretty funny you say that about the tires. When I went to go pick up the wheels my tire guy asked if I wanted to keep those old tires. I told him nine years was a long time and they had served me well. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went to someone with an old farm truck or on a piece of equipment for a hayfield.
