Front Lid Gap
 

I asked my shop to replace the worn out front lid struts on my '72 911.

Surprisingly, they mounted two struts on the passenger's side in addition to the one on the driver's side. Now the rear edge of the lid is a good 1/4" higher than the cowl on the passenger side where the two struts are mounted.

Is this "normal" with the two struts application?

I tried removing the washer on the passenger side hinge to lower the lid height, however, it's still too high.

How can I correct this?

This is normal if you use two struts on one side. Just put the proper one on each side and all should be good.

No. Not normal on the front lid.

Sometimes it is done on the rear if you have a heavy wing or tail.

Are you sure they changed the driver's side? They may have just put 2 on the R side. The L side is a bear if you have big hands, or even normal hands.

Those struts last about a week anyway. Total crap. Take 'em out entirely and use a broomstick. Okay, a carbon-fiber broomstick.

What I meant was that if you put two shocks on one side the 1/4 gap is normal...not that it is right. The extra force is overriding the hinge. Like I said...one on each side should do the trick.

Yes, I'm sure they installed a new strut on the driver's side because I brought the car in with no strut on either side :eek:

I removed the second strut on the passenger side, and voila, the height is just right again :)

Keep the strut you removed. You'll need it in a year.
