On the 79 SC how do I know whether or not I have a rubber clutch?? I told a story a couple years ago that when I was an idiot and 1st bought the 911 I tried to peel out. (I know I already said I was an idiot) And smelled the most god awful stinkiness after that!!
what was that smell ?? is that the rubber clutch? or is it something else? Now I only peel out in the rain

By now, the vast majority of those gawd-awful, rubber-centered clutches have been replaced with the spring center version.
![]() Hopefully, you have some documentation that shows if the clutch has ever been replaced or not. If you have over 100K on the car, its likely not original, but you really cannot tell without disassembly. That smell was the organic clutch facing being burned and thats not a good thing,.... ![]() It bears repeating that such driving antics will get VERY expensive in short order and I encourage our clients not to do this. There are much better cars for making tire smoke. If you really want the ability to generate tire smoke without ruining a clutch, axles, or transmissions, I'd recommend the installation of a 3.6 Varioram engine as they will easily burn the tires, especially without an LSD,....

If you have a rubber centered clutch disk that has made-it 30+ years (thru driving antics)... then you got one of the good ones.
