Post Engine reinstalled...clutch and oil leak

I completed the top-end job and re-installed the 2.7 last week. Started it up and all is as well as expected with the following exceptions:
1. I have oil leaks on both sides of the engine. Appears to be coming from the lower valve covers and they are "turbo" style, but old. Could they be warped enough to allow a leak? It leaked in the vicinity previous to the rebuild, but all precautions were taken to prevent leaks upon rebuilding it. If the rocker shafts are leaking, where would that appear? The droplets are at the lowest corner/nuts of the covers. All else (including return tubes are DRY.
2. I installed a new Sachs clutch kit while everything was out. Followed the factory manual to the letter as far as installation. The car shudders badly at engagment of the clutch in 1st gear, but I don't think I have an installation problem. If my engine mounts are shot, will this cause the shuddering? They appear to be bolted tight.

Thanks,
Jack McAllister

Rocker shaft leaks will appear along the back side of the cam tower, accumulating along the first fin of the tower at the bottom. If the oil drops are showing up on the lower valve cover bolts/nuts, I would say the covers are leaking.

Jack,

I assume you used the graphite gaskets with the green silicone bead. The later SC and Carrera spec books call for 6 lb-ft/8 Nm torque on them, 1/3 of the normal 8 mm torque rating! You may want to jack up one side of the car at a time, and check those Turbo covers for flatness on a countertop ... and maybe wet sand them with a piece of 320 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper if they aren't flat anymore. And try reinstalling new 'beaded green silicone' gaskets at the lower torque setting.

Warren,
The gaskets that came with the gasket set might not have been the green silicone ones. I'll be changing the oil at 200 miles which isn't too long from now, so I'll check the covers and sand if needed. I'll also order the other gaskets. It never occured to me that the lower turbo covers could have been one of the original oil leak spots. Hope it is...

Thanks,
Jack

The cable has been adjusted as described in the manual. It is slightly pre-stressed. The pedal pressure seems a little heavy, but it is a whole new clutch kit. I had the flywheel resurfaced also.
