The old girl made it to LeMans and back without any major problems.
It was good to see the Porsche's finished in 6th and 7th - ahead of all the GTS class runners! From the spectators point of view, you will have already guessed that it was pretty wet - especially as we were camping. However, the atmosphere and 'magic' of the place was hard to suppress. The highlights this year were 1) The 3rd place for the Bentley - good result seeing as the car only run in the rain once before! 2) The number of Brits who made the journey (45,000+), especially the those who took the more extreme cars. Hats off to the guys with C-Type Jags, Lotus 7's, 1930's Bentleys etc etc that made the journey. 3) Eating in a Chinese resturant on the Mulsanne Straight on the Sat night (next to the Hundaries Cafe) 4) Watching the cars into the the night at the end of the main straight 5) The noise of the Corvette's - last year the Panoz's were loud, but they switch to a smaller engine has removed the 'rumble' 6) The classic's race on the Sat morning - there is talk of a bi-annual 24hr classic event (5 classes, each racing for 45min in the hour, in rotation) The journey highlighted a few problems with the car which I will post separately, as I would like some advice on some of these if possible. However, the drive was still fantastic - a real chance to stretch the car's legs. It proved itself a good match to the VW Corrado VR6 I was travelling with, though I am not going to post specifics, as we have done the debate about exceeding speed limits on the public roads! Hope the other guys who were there enjoyed themselves. I would guess it would have been a good one to watch on speedvision as well - I will need to wait to borrow a recording. If any snaps came out, I will post them later! ------------------ Marcus '73 S Targa |
