Lower Seat question

Is the driver and passenger side LOWER portion of a 1976 pair of seats the same, and can I swap them over. Obviously I can't swap the tops, but the bottom halves look identical.

You CAN swap the backs but the recliner cable can be a real PIA to reinstall. I removed the backs of factory seats that I had sold. I did it at the UPS depot in about 30 minutes.

Why not just swap the seats entirely? The only issue is that the recliner adjustment wheel and the lever to flip the back will be on the wrong side.

I did this (on seats purchased from Wayne!) and although it's not "correct" is works fine and is hardly noticable once you get used to it.

The only problem I found on and 87 was the seat belt attach point. Mine is welded to the frame of the drivers seat base.

The guy who is selling the seat base only has that part. The reason I want to do this is because the seat base he has for sale is covered in (correct for my car) NLA basket weave vinyl. The rest of the interior of my car is in great shape, no tears or rips and i would like to try and keep it original, and make this work.
What I am thinking of doing is removing the vinyl cover and having a good upholsterer put it on my drivers side seat.

me? or the other, more Pelican looking Wayne?

Yes, you can have the vinyl removed and put on the new base. Any good shop can do that without a problem.
