I've noticed a few of you have been on holidays/honeymoons
As a proud Australian, I feel that I should inform you of our "half-dollar". As of recent times, our currency has fallen in line with most other banana republics around the world and it is currently worth about half of your greenback. Sticker prices here are about the same as over there meaning you really do pay about half as much for purchases. Anyway, if any of you have wanted to see the Outback (Coby, you are a LOOSER), or the Great Barrier Reef, now is an excellent time. Just thought you might be interested ![]() ------------------ John Forcier 69 911T |

And while you are there, jump across the ditch and visit Australias' mainland- New Zealand (this joke is very circular).
Our present exchange rate would make a bananna republic appear like Monaco in comparison. Plus you would have no problems if you decided to mount an aerial attack: Our government has just decided to literally sell the airforce. (honest) At least we have Lord of the Rings. ------------------ '72 911 TE |

I look forward someday to visiting you guys neck of the world. Always dreamed of things like diving the reef and cycling around New Zealand. Not on the radar this year, but maybe next. When I come, I'll buy you guys a Fosters.

Fish...Hmm selling your Air force huh??? Well I don't think the U.S. is in the market for any F-111s..Except for the "Raven" we've kind of put those to rest!!! F-15 Eagle replaced it. However, Libya may be interested since the F-111s from Lakenheath kind of woke them up a while back! I was stationed at the "Heath" right after the raid and there was all kinds of memorabilia available. Coffee cups that had the word LIBYA in bold print with a caption "L"akenheath "I"s "B"ombing "Y"er "A"ss! on them. Would love to visit your country (note was considered a primo Air Force assignment in my day) Closest I got was a vist while in Germany to a country that is spelled almost the same but no Roos!!!!!

It is New Zealand selling the airforce - our fleet of fear-inspiring Skyhawks, which were state of the art 30 years ago. Apparently great for training.
I think a 747 can fly faster. Cam |

Australia can't laugh, our F111's have been rebuilt so many times.... Howie, I think the internals ARE F15, it's just the shell that looks F111. I hear that if we had of just replaced the old birds with current technology rather than "improve" them we'd actually have saved tax payers millions.
Cam, I reckon one of those flash ANSETT planes Air New Zealand owns could be fitted out with full combat stuff. It could still do the passenger thing and double up as your air defence! Wadayareckon? ------------------ John Forcier 69 911T |

The problem with the Ansett planes is the ones they had in NZ have just been moved to Australia.
Th three fastest planes in NZ are not owned by the Airforce, 2 migs and a Vietnam plane!!! I think our new motto should be something like... "when attacking New Zealand, please leave your weapons at the door, as our Military does not carry weapons" |

I'm aghast at the suggestion that the US of A will be merging with Canada. I think I'd defect before I'd consider supporting that. What's next, entering into mutual defense treaties exclusively with the French?

John,
My assumption about Fosters is based on a devious but successful marketing campaign by the Foster Brewing Co. Those bastards got me again. When am I going to learn? M ------------------ Mark B. Wilson 1970 911E mbwilson@home.com http://www.marksobsessions.20m.com/ |

John, I had the good fortune to spend 6 months in Oz in the late 80's. It is one of the best memories of my life. Took the Grehound from Sydney south to Adelaid, Cambria (boring), Melborne, then north to the rock, Alice Springs, then north to Caines (dove the GB reef), North (or South?) Hampton Island (later found out it was a shark observatory), Brisbane and finally settled in Surfers Paradise for a 21/2 month stay. I missed the formula one race, however.
The people are great and I have never been greated with more hospitality. I made great friends I still keep in touch with. One guy comes over every couple years and buys old 55-57 Chevys and ships them back. I guess he does pretty good because the sale from one car in Oz pays for his whole trip. I was actually invited to stay with many families throughout Austrailia. As to the beer, Castelman XXXX is the best. But Swan and Victoria Bitter is definately up on the top of my list. The club life is great. The Beer Gardens in Surfers is definately a placve to hit on Sunday mornings. At 9:00 a.m. the pints go for .05 and up .05 every fifteen minutes. For a Ausie buck (US .50) you get smashed. Those were the days. You guys have it made. I highly recommend the trip. --------------------- Paul 78SC Targa |
