Side mounts and Corbeau fx1 seats
I am planing to mount an fx1 and an fx1 pro in my '79 911 sc. I don't want to use the Corbeau side mounts and would like to know what mounts and sliders from other manufacturers might work for these seats. For instance, would Sparco side mounts and sliders work? How about using the stock sliders? I do plan to do some machining myself. If you have any advice on how to best mount these seats please share it.
Many thanks. |

If you have not search for mounting racing seats or similar. There is a few posts on this. I think the FIA seats all have to mount the same on the sides.
The real issue is fitting it between the sill and trans tunnel, lots of seats wont fit with out surgery, which may be a deal killer. TRE has a neat way to do it, they get an extra floor section panel and weld it on top of the existing floor - make a doubler. Then mount the sliders to the floor - lots more options that way. Oh and they remove the stock "ears" If you are tall at all mounting to the stock "ears" is very unsatisfactory, its puts you very high in the car. I had a fixed back mounted to the floor in my 73 - it transformed the car feel for me. The 2 inches lower put me in the perfect driving position. Note cutting and welding on the trans tunnel will melt the plastic fuel line in there - lots of info on this if you search as well.

I just mounted FX1's in my 79sc. First I mounted the std sliders to the bottom the seat with a bracket that utilized the stock mounting points....I found that the seats were way too high, I couldn’t even fit in the car, let alone with a helmet on (I'm 6'3)
I ended up removing the stock mounting points on the sill and tunnel (the seat would not fit between) and welding in a 1" square section tube at the floor level secured either end. I tapped holes in the square tube to mount the sliders; this dropped the set by 2-3 inches. NOTE: be careful not the drill through the fuel line in the tunnel when removing the stock mounting points, it is a real pain replacing them!!!!! Good luck, Stu |
