84 3.2L swap in 77 Euro - Clutch issue
I'm (still) looking at a 77 Euro Carrera 3.0 that had an 84 US 3.2 installed ~20 years ago by the previous owner to the current seller. I have a concern about the clutch actuation.
The clutch is extremely heavy compared to typical SC's. My question is could a very heavy clutch be related to the engine swap, or is it very likely one of the typical causes, such as pedal cluster bushings, cable, etc.? The seller states that the clutch has been heavy since he bought it. Seller installed new clutch 12K miles ago, but had no affect on the clutch actuation. Seller seems OK with it, but I know it's not right. Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated! |

Is the helper spring missing, broken or detatched from the bottom of the bellhousing area? It looks like an "omega" near where the clutch cable attaches to the trans. I doubt bad pedal bushings would create that much friction. And he replaced the clutch so he's had two different clutches with the same problem.

I would look at the helper arm that has the big spring, frozen to the verticle shaft, really needs to be removed, cleaned and lubricated.

I honestly think the helper spring did not come along until 1978 (the first year of the 911SC). I know my 1976 911S did not have a helper spring.
So that may be the reason the clutch feels heavier. Rich

My '77 had an omega spring on the mag 915, and the PO removed the helper spring on the clutch pedal because he didn't like the feel.
