Cat Gut Testimony

Spent the morning gutting the old Cat. If you haven't done it yet, do it today!! Noticeable improvement in acceleration. After a very Spirited run, temp below first bar. Used to run about 9 oclock after normal driving. Now for that performance muffler. BTW car sounds incredible without muffler.

Cool

Hey Robert - now you know why many of us go to SSI headers and a dual-in muffler - - pipes from the heater boxes straight back to the muffler! No Cat. performance is significantly improved on World-Dominating SCs!

Yeah Chuck, the car revved like it didnt have a flywheel on it with the muffler off. Got to get a Bursche or Ansa with two outlets next.

How _do_ you gut an old cat? Is it reusable after gutting?
I have noticed that cat bypass pipes are quite cheap ($130). Do they have a screw hole for the O2 sensor?
Some time ago I recall seeing posts suggesting that some free flow mufflers can actually reduce performance. Is this because they somehow create more backpressure, or is it that the reduced back pressure 'confuses' the DME? If the latter, could not a cat bypass do the same, since I would assume that it also reduces back pressure?

I used Superman's "broomstick" method. Remove muffler and valance, insert broomstick, rap with hammer until ceramic catalyst shatters, start engine blow out chunks, reinsert broom stick...repeat until clear. Result, cooler, stronger running engine. See "bucket o guts".

Shame on you, Robert, I never thought you'd be cruel to animals. Was your cat dead? Why didn't you put it on the shelf for a future smog-nazi attack? You could have bought a test pipe for $100 or less. A new cat will set you back 5x that.
