Now that ethanol blended gas is being mandated everywhere in the USA, I'm wondering if anybody knows where to find Zenith rebuild kits that will withstand the ethanol? If there is a source for Viton accelerator pump diaphragm and auxiliary enrichment device gaskets, I'm guessing the other seals should hold up OK to ethanol.
I have been using the E-10 gas for a few months now with no problems, but it's only a matter of time..... Thanks |

Do you know what percent the blend is? Most times it will cause rubber parts to swell. We had problems when the needle as in needle and set was rubber tipped, it would swell up and cut off the fuel supply. Otherwise you may have to reset the float level due to the different specific gravity. A dash of MM oil would not hurt when running ethanol either.

I live in TX, where 100% gas was everywhere, until a few months ago. Now, everything is 10% ethanol (E-10). New state law I believe. So far, I can't tell much difference in how the car runs on E-10 vs pure gas, but that's probably because the ethanol hasn't had a chance to damage any gaskets yet.
If I can confirm that the rebuild kits sold here @ Pelican include Viton gaskets instead of rubber, that would eliminate my worries, but my guess is that nobody is producing new kits, using modern materials, for these old carbs. Every kit out there is probably New Old Stock (which was never designed for ethanol). Maybe this is the motivation I need to swap to FI (Megasquirt or similar) |
