Question Lightweight aluminum interior for 911

I'm interested in having the interior of my 1974 911 Targa removed and replaced with a very lightweight aluminum interior - pretty spartan, no rear seats, minimal dash, etc.

I'm in Atlanta, GA, and interested in getting the work done locally if possible. I've already gutted most of the interior except for the dash (rear seats, carpet, rear deck, door panels,etc.). This is starting to look like more work than I want to do myself.

I'm also interested in seeing pictures of any similar conversions, or kits. -gb

Thumbs up

I have installed Alum race seats from Ultra Shield as seen in Grassroots Motorsports Magazine (www.ultrashieldrace.com). They are very similar to the Kirkey Road Race seats but a lot less $$$.

That's www.ultrashieldrace.com
www.ultrashield.com is some sort of miracle odor remover...

I have looked at their seats, as well as some of the fiberglass ones you see in the summit racing catalog. The don't look terribly comfoftable - how is the ultrashield seat in terms of comfort?

I figure the best weight savings will be the purely useless stuff for me (rears seat, carpets, etc.), and the dash area (I would be fine with just a flat aluminum panel and 5-6 gauges, maybe a heater vent, nothing else).
Cleaning up the floor and rear area so it looks less horrific probably means bead blasting or something similar, and some paint. -gb

Jerry, when I had my car in bits for it's repaint I couldn't believe how heavy the doors are. It would be nice to get rid of some of the spare metal on the inside, while leaving enough to support the window winder mechanism (or reskin the outside with light panels, $$$ though). Someone more technical than me may have some ideas on this. Bill '79SC

I have driven a car with the kirkey road race seat in it that LOOKS almost the same as the ultrashield. It is a true wrap around seat that will fit a certain size person. When you sit in it and strap yourself in-you do not move. Personally i like the feel of the seat but, not for everyday driving. It is more comfortable than the corbeau seat that i have.
