How Do I get The Headers Off
 

Hello,

I am Trying to get the headers of a 2.7 RS(conversion) and I see the bolts that connect the headers to the case. There is a regular metric Nut and an Allen Bolt for each Pipe.

1. Is this how it is supposed to be.

2. The Allen bolt is a 9mm I think-Is this right??Where can I get a 9mm Allen Socket??

3. If this is not right than how is suppossed to be and How can I get it off??

Ron, yes, there are two nuts on each flange. I suspect one is an ordinary 13mm, and the other is an Allen, perhaps 9mm. You'll need a long one that can reach through. These are not fasteners to mess around with. Some say you will NOT get them all off without breaking a stud or two. Use penetrant on it daily for days if you have time. Then use heat on the nuts. Quickly get them cherry red, put the tool on them, tighten the nut just a tiny bit first, then back off gently. Let things cool completely if you need to go at it again. Patience pays here.

It is an 8mm long allen bit, or bit in a socket.

I made my own by cutting a 6 inch long piece from an 8mm allen wrench, epoxy it into an 6 point 8mm socket for a 3/8 inch ratchet. This is the best way to be able to torque it down to spec later.

This tool is probably not that expensive, but it was easier to make it than to look for it from Snap on or Porsche specialist.

When you are working on a Porsche, it is often the case that you end up making your own tools.

I think you you will find that the exhaust nuts are 13mm and a 8mm allen. Most major tool suppiers have a 6in long 8mm socket. The most important thing is the application of copious amounts of penatrating oil to the nuts a few days prior to actually putting the wrench to them.... In really tough cases a torch and a can of 50 below can help.... good luck
